  1. Clonidine 0.3

Clonidine belongs to a class of drugs called central alpha-adrenergic agonists. In the United States, clonidine tablets are sold under the brand name Catapres and clonidine skin patches are sold under the brand name Catapres-TTS. There is also an injectable form that is administered directly into the spinal cord for the treatment of postoperative pain. Clonidine tablets and patches are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of high blood pressure. However, clonidine has been found to be useful in the treatment of alcohol, opiate, and nicotine withdrawal syndromes, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Tourette's syndrome, one of the tic disorders . Clonidine was synthesized in 1960s and was initially tested as a nasal decongestant. In the United States, clonidine was first used to treat hypertension although it has also been investigated for treatment of different neuropsychiatric disorders. Clonidine works on specific nerve cells in the brain that are responsible for lowering blood pressure, slowing heart rate, and decreasing the body's reaction to the withdrawal of chemicals like alcohol, opiates, cocaine, and nicotine. It’s available as a patch, an oral tablet, and an oral extended-release tablet. Clonidine extended-release tablets are available as the brand-name drug Kapvay. Clonidine extended-release tablets are used to treat symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This drug may be used as part of a combination therapy. In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as the brand. That means you may need to take it with other drugs. Clonidine belongs to a class of drugs called centrally acting alpha-agonists. It isn’t known exactly how clonidine extended-release tablets work to reduce symptoms of ADHD. We do know that clonidine works in the part of the brain that helps regulate behavior, attention, and how we express emotion. However, this effect might go away the longer you take it. Mild side effects may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if they’re more severe or don’t go away.

Oral: -Initial dose: 0.1 mg orally 2 times a day (morning and bedtime) -Titration: Increments of 0.1 mg orally per day may be made at weekly intervals to desired response -Maintenance dose: 0.2 to 0.6 mg orally per day in divided doses -Maximum dose: 2.4 mg orally per day in divided doses Comments: -Taking the larger portion of the oral daily dose at bedtime may minimize transient adjustment effects of dry mouth and drowsiness Transdermal patches: -Initial dose: 0.1 mg/24 hr patch applied every 7 days -Maintenance dose: If, after 1 to 2 weeks the desired reduction in blood pressure is not achieved, increase the dosage by adding another 0.1 mg/24 hr patch or changing to a larger system -Maximum dose: Doses above two 0.3 mg/24 hr patches applied every 7 days is usually not associated with additional efficacy Comments: -The transdermal patch should be applied to a hairless area of intact skin on the upper outer arm or chest. -Each new patch should be applied on a different skin site from the previous location. -If the patch loosens during 7-day wearing, the adhesive cover should be applied directly over the system to ensure good adhesion. -There have been rare reports of the need for patch changes prior to 7 days to maintain blood pressure control. -When substituting patches for the oral formulation or for other antihypertensive drugs, physicians should be aware that the antihypertensive effect of the patches may not commence until 2 to 3 days after initial application; therefore, gradual reduction of prior drug dosage is advised. Some or all previous antihypertensive treatment may have to be continued, particularly in patients with more severe forms of hypertension. Use: For hypertension, alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents Epidural infusion: -Initial dose: 30 mcg/hr as a continuous infusion -Titration: May be titrated up or down depending on pain relief and occurrence of adverse events Maximum dose 40 mcg/hr as a continuous infusion Use: For the treatment of severe pain (in combination with opiates) in cancer patients that is not adequately relieved by opioid analgesics alone.

When I worked at GNC in my early 20s, I had a regular Friday night crowd of customers: guys looking for what we called “boner pills.” These weren’t middle-aged men with erectile issues—these were usually young, in-their-sexual prime guys, eager to enhance the perfectly normal erections they already had. Now, men like this may have to look no further than the pharmacy aisle at any big-box store for a boost: The drug manufacturer Eli Lilly is vying to make Cialis, a drug presently prescribed for erectile dysfunction, available over the counter. Any man—healthy or otherwise—could soon get his hands on the stuff. This is a good thing for the guys who really need it, whether for E. D., prostate problems, or urinary trouble, says Culley Carson III, M. D., a distinguished professor of urology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “If Cialis goes over the counter, more men will have access to it, because, hopefully, the cost will be more affordable,” he says.
